This was our experience.
My mom started experiencing lethargy and slight body aches on Saturday April 25th, 2020. On Sunday April 26th, she began to experience a fairly intense headache. She doesn’t usually get headaches so this was an unusual symptom for her. She also began experiencing a dry cough, a slight fever, severe body aches, and some chest congestion. With these symptoms, our family doctor recommended she go to the ER. She tested positive for COVID-19 and her oxygen levels were within normal range so she was sent home to self-isolate with a prescription of antibiotics and cough medicine and an inhaler in case it was necessary.
She is a 60 year old female who is overweight, has high cholesterol, and hypertension meaning she’s in the “higher risk” category. Normally, my mother is the type of person who never takes her supplements and is very non-compliant. But this time, I was stern with her: I had her start on a naturopathic protocol in the evening on Sunday, April 26th.
Monday, April 27th: Her fever was gone and this was the first day of taking ALL that I had recommended.
Tuesday, April 28th: She stopped experiencing headaches and the dry cough. She reported body aches and slight chest congestion still present.
Wednesday, April 29th: She reported body aches still quite painful and was finding it difficult to sleep due to the pain.
I recommended she take Tylenol PM to help reduce her pain and help her sleep.
Thursday, April 30th: She reported waking with no body aches and was able to sleep through the night.
She never took Tylenol again and her symptoms never came back.
Meanwhile, because my mom tested positive and she was exposed to my dad, uncle, aunt, and grandmother, I gave them all of my supplements while I waited for my new order to come in. I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism which is an autoimmune condition associated with low thyroid function. This means I tend to be more immunocompromised as well. But it’s fairly well managed with naturopathic medicine.
Friday, May 1st: I started to feel extremely fatigued and found it difficult to get my work done. By the evening, I began to experience a headache, nasal congestion, and extreme body aches and had a low-grade fever. I had some supplements left over so I began taking them.
Saturday, May 2nd: I struggled with sleeping because of the body aches and feeling of restlessness. I woke up every 2 hours which is very uncommon for me. My fever and fatigue was worse but body aches were better. My headache was about the same. The rest of my supplement order came in so I began my protocol. I went outside and practiced breathing exercises. I noticed I felt significantly better while breathing fresh air so I took a nap outside. I walked around the backyard a few times in the day. My body aches and fever improved throughout the day. Our family doctor wrote me a prescription to get tested for COVID-19.
Sunday, May 3rd: All of my symptoms were gone except for a very mild headache that went away by the afternoon.
What did we do?
We did a lot of the things I talk about in this video on supporting your immune system. We did all of these things in much higher doses than recommended. We also drank an antiviral herbal tea twice a day and took another supplement that has a number of antiviral, antimicrobial, immune stimulating herbs. We also avoided dairy and sugar completely. We only ate when we were hungry and when we did eat, it was simple anti-inflammatory foods like ayurvedic khichdi or my anti-inflammatory protein powder.
We also had faith in our ability to recover from the start. This is significant because neither of us were feeling stressed and this is not something we can just begin doing once hardship arises. It’s something we must practice everyday so when hardship hits, we are better able to handle it. This is why I’m constantly emphasizing the importance of stress management and shifting our mindsets.
I’m writing my and my mother’s experience to bring hope to our community and to anyone affected personally. For those who experience mild to moderate symptoms, there is no need to suffer for longer.
